Mindanao Dioceses launch Alay Kapwa Lenten Campaign

Warm  and festive ambiance  welcomes  the National Launching of  Alay Kapwa  in the “City of Golden Friendship” in Cagayan de Oro which was hosted by the Diocese led by Archbishop Antonio Ledesma and Social Action Director Rev. Fr. Nathaniel Lerio, SSJV  last March 3-4. The welcome mass which is celebrated by Archbishop Ledesma signifies the opening of the two-day celebration.

For the 2nd time, the Alay Kapwa (AK) Program of the CBCP-NASSA launches its National Lenten Campaign simultaneously in three Dioceses, one from each of the three regions, Luzon Visayas and Mindanao, flagging this year’s theme “One Human Family without Poverty and Hunger.”
Most Rev. Bishop Broderick S. Pabillo, D.D., CBCP-NASSA National Director joined the significant “Alay Kapwa Walk” citywide together with more than 200 participants (priests and lay representatives) waving colorful flags, banners and slogans. Among the dioceses who participated in the big event came from Butuan, Tandag, Malaybalay, Marbel, Iligan, Dipolog, Ozamis, Pagadian, Marawi, Zamboanga, Jolo Sulu and Ipil. The parishioners of the host Diocese from different apostolates and religious groups dominated the crowd.

Accordingly, Alay Kapwa Program is the Lenten Evangelization-Action Program of the Philippine Catholic Church created by the Catholic bishops in 1975. As the Social Action Ministry of the CBCP, NASSA takes charge of the implementation as part of its commitment to transform a society enlivened by the Gospel values of justice and peace, and love of our brothers and sisters in Christ with preferential option for the poor and the oppressed.

Bishop Pabillo stressed on his orientation the scandal of poverty and the responsibility of everyone to reach out our brothers and AK_cdosisters in Christ as an expression of solidarity to those who are seriously afflicted and in the most vulnerable state. Butuan Most Rev. Juan de Dios Pueblos and Tandag Most Rev. Nerio Odchimar concelebrated the mass with Bishop Pabillo on the second day.

Alay Kapwa Program has two main objectives why it is formed by the Catholic Bishops of the Philippines. First, it is formational. It intends to deepen the mission of evangelization of every faithful especially in his/ her tasks to renew the society that promotes justice, equality, peace, truth and love for the common good. And second, it is financial. This resource mobilization goal is to relate the message of the formational campaign with the spirit of sharing and sacrifice by which contributions are utilized to support and sustained social action initiatives on emergency responses and disaster management, peace advocacy, good governance, sustainable agriculture and other development concerns

The 2-day activity covers Opening Liturgy/Eucharistic Celebration, talks on Social Action Ministry and advocacies, Alay Kapwa orientation, Medical, Dental  and Paralegal/legal mission, Lenten Recollection by Bishop Pabillo, Visit to Typhoon Sendong victims relocation sites and other Social Action programs such as home visitation to the mentally challenge and (men and women) inmates.##
